Harold John Arthur (1904–1971) was the 68th Governor of Vermont from 1950 to 1951. He also served as the 62nd Lieutenant Governor of Vermont from 1949 to 1950.
He did not seek reelection to the Governor's Office in 1950. He ran unsuccessfully for US Congress as the Republican candidate in 1958, and was defeated by the Democratic candidate William H. Meyer, who became the first House Democrat elected from Vermont for 102 years.
He was born in Whitehall, Washington County, N.Y., February 9, 1904. He took up residence in Burlington, Vermont. He obtained a degree, by correspondence, from La Salle Extension University, then became an attorney.[1] He was a major in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a Unitarian.
His remains were entombed in mausoleum at Lake View Cemetery, Burlington, Vermont.
